Violet Alida Sixta, age 96, of Willmar and formerly of Pennock, died Wednesday morning, September 23, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar with her daughter Lila at her side.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Central Time, on Friday, October 2, at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Visit  https://www.violetmemorial.com/home

Violet Alida Sixta was born on June 24, 1924, in Florence, Minnesota, the daughter of Ernest and Alida (Hobben) Bloom. She grew up in Lake Wilson and graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1942 and later attended Mankato Beauty School. On June 8, 1949, Violet was united in marriage to Daryl Merle Sixta at the Lutheran church in Tyler. They made their home in Pennock where Violet worked as a beautician out of a salon attached to her home while simultaneously raising their four children and later, the occasional grandchild. Many of her customers went home with a free fresh-baked loaf of bread or freshly-harvested chicken in addition to a new hair styling.

Violet moved to Willmar in 1989 and later lived in the communities of Slayton and Paynesville before returning to Willmar in 2017. She was an active member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church, singing in the choir and serving in ladies aide. Violet enjoyed farming, gardening, canning, baking, jewelry, Polka dancing, driving, motorcycling, restoring antique cars, RV camping, flying (she was a pilot), paragliding (at age 73!), decorating her home, and glitz. She adored her parents and children and she cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her descendants inherited from Violet a love of family and food, and her love of glitz rubbed off on a lucky few of them as well. Violet’s adventurous and independent personality, great memory, and love of hard work has and will continue to be an inspiration to her family.

Violet is survived by her four children, Linda (and Jerome) Kjolsing of New Richmond, WI, Clinton (and Lynette) Sixta of Pennock, Calvin (and Terri) Sixta of Roatán, Honduras, and Lila Driscoll of Edina; ten grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Also surviving are three siblings, Virgil (and Pat) Bloom of Boerne, TX, George (and Joyce) Bloom of Slayton and Carol Snyder of Watertown.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings, Luella Smith, Norma Jean Beech, Thelma Beech, Velva Snyder, Isabelle Widboom and Earl Bloom
