Verdonna E. Dobbs, age 84, of New London, passed away Sunday, May 3, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Spicer. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the service on Friday. Arrangements are entrusted to the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. www.petersonbrothers.com
Verdonna was born on May 12, 1941, in Chester, South Dakota, the daughter of Clinton and Verda (Ingalls) Williams. She grew up in the Franklin community, graduated from Franklin High School in 1959, and attended General Beadle State Teachers College and in 1960, was the GBSTC Homecoming Queen. She earned BS degrees in both Elementary Education and Physical Education, graduating in 1962. On August 4, 1962, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Madison, South Dakota, Verdonna was united in marriage to Ronald Dobbs. They made their home in the New London-Spicer community and were blessed with two children. Verdonna taught in the New London-Spicer School District for over 28 years and retired in 1996.
Verdonna and Ron were charter members of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. She taught Faith Formation for many years and volunteered for many activities throughout her church and the NLS community. Verdonna enjoyed making cards, visiting the beauty salon and reading to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Ron; two children, Tom (and Laura) Dobbs of St. Paul and Stephanie (and Bill) Lipkin of Springfield, New Jersey; six grandchildren, Delaney, Arthur, Lowry and Owen Dobbs and Gabby and Samantha Lipkin; and two great grandchildren, Charlotte and Sawyer Dobbs. Also surviving is one brother, Earl Williams; and Ron’s siblings, brother, Joe (and Jolene) Dobbs of Rapid City, SD.; sister, Nancy (and Craig) Kuepp of Tucson, AZ.; and sister-in-law, Nancy Dobbs of Kansas City, MO., besides other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings, Marlin (and Marge) Williams and Lois (and Harold) Walker; a sister-in-law, Shirley Williams; and Ron’s brother, Jack Dobbs.
