Stella Young

Stella A. Young, age 97, of Raymond, died Tuesday morning, October 24, at the Alterra Sterling House in Willmar.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, at the United Methodist Church in Raymond with Rev. Barb Jones officiating. A private interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church in Raymond. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home of Willmar.
Stella Anna Young was born on April 9, 1909, in Richville, Minnesota, the daughter of Lottie (Atherton) and Benjamin F. Harris. She grew up in the Richville community, attended rural school and graduated from Perham High School. She went on to graduate from John Fletcher College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, with a degree in education. She taught at the School for the Blind in Gary, South Dakota. On December 23, 1933, she married Rev. Russell E. Young in Gary, South Dakota. In 1934, she moved to Princeton, New Jersey, then to New York and North Dakota, where her husband served in the parish ministry. In 1943, they moved to Minnesota, where they served churches in Luverne, Brownton and Raymond. Following the death of her husband in 1957, she returned to teaching math and science at the Raymond Junior High School for eighteen years. In 2001, she moved to the Alterra Sterling House Assisted Living in Willmar. She was a member of the Minnesota Teachers Association and was a former Sunday school teacher, financial secretary, choir member and member of the United Methodist Church Women.
She is survived by a daughter, Joanne L. (and Rev. Paul A.) Peterson of Raymond; a son, Ronald M. (and Nova) Young of Cody, Wyoming; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1957; twin brothers at birth and two sisters, Lucille Muzzey and Olive Buechler.
