Roger LeRoy Huisken was born on July 28, 1952 to Joe and Elizabeth Huisken in Edgerton, Minnesota. Roger graduated from Edgerton Christian Elementary School, and Pipestone High School. He then worked at a grocery market in Brookings, SD. He spent weekends in Edgerton to enjoy home cooked meals, seeing his family, and attending First Christian Reformed Church, which he had faithfully attended since his birth.

After living in a number of day care situations, Roger moved to Willmar, MN in June,1994. Here he lived at an adult group home until his death. He enjoyed the friendship of other residents and was loved by many caretakers. He dutifully worked at Crossroads and acquired the friendship of many colleagues. Roger attended the Willmar Christian Reformed Church where he belonged to an adult worship group. The family was thankful for the church membership providing transportation.

Roger relished going for car rides, eating at local places, and most of all he loved the Minnesota Twins. He knew more facts than even his brothers could relate. A highlight for the summer was attending a game or two provided by his Twin Cities brothers. Walls in his room were decorated totally Twins, along with memorabilia of his family.

Those who were privileged to love him are his three brothers and their wives, Eugene and Twila Huisken, Maple Grove, MN; Lyle and Fran Huisken, Poinciana, FL, and Keith and Carmen Huisken, Long Lake, MN, and also his seven nieces and nephews and their families. Long time Edgerton friends who always remembered him are Mike and Dawn Menning now making their home in Salt Lake City, Utah. A Crossroads staff member, Mike Schultz, built a strong friendship with Roger from June, 1994, to the present.

Roger expressed a beautiful, simple faith. When he had the opportunity to tell about his gratitude at a Thanksgiving church service, he recited John 3:16. The pastor asked if he wanted to add anything and his reply said it all. “That's about it.”
