Obituary


Robert (Bob) H. Scheltens of Willmar, formerly of Raymond, passed away on Thursday, April 2 at the age of 88.

Visitation will begin at 2 pm followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3 pm on Tuesday, April 7 at the Methodist Church in Raymond, MN. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond with military honors provided by the Raymond American Legion Post. Bob was born November 27, 1937, in Willmar to Henry and Margaret (Swenson) Scheltens. He lived most of his life in Raymond, graduating from Raymond High School in 1956. He went on to attend Hamline University. He enlisted in the Army in February of 1959 and served until 1961. On April 25, 1959, he was united in marriage to DeEtta Dunlavy at the Methodist Church in Raymond. They had three daughters, Kelly, Kristyn and Traci. Bob worked on powerline construction for the first 13 years of their marriage. During that time, they moved several times before returning to Raymond to take over the family farm in 1975.

Bob retired from farming in 2001 but continued to enjoy his horses, mules and donkeys. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved visiting grandpa and grandma on the farm, spending time with the animals and drinking iced tea on the porch.

Bob was a member of the local Lions Club, the American Legion, and the Raymond Methodist Church. He was a member of the Ridge Till Association and named conservation farmer of the year in 1987.

Bob is survived by his wife, DeEtta; 3 daughters, Kelly (Bryan) Schneck of Willmar, Kris (Tom) Dykema of Raymond, Traci (Kevin) Strandberg of Pennock; 8 grandchildren, Tanner (Amy) Johnson, Brady (Lexis) Schneck, Traivis (Mallory) Dykema, Luke (Bailey) Dykema, Kalli (Preston) Asche, Maddi (Zach) Carlson, Molli (Jake Klavetter) Strandberg, Kourtni (Marcus Houdek) Strandberg; 9 great-grandchildren, Harlow, Imogene, Felix, Rehn and Basye Dykema; Lindy, Lena and Cooper Johnson; Knox Dykema, and two more on the way.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret Scheltens; sister and brother-in-law Marjorie & Tom Riemer; infant son, Kory Robert; infant granddaughter, Morgan Strandberg; mother and father- in-law, Frank and Lila Dunlavy; sisters and brothers-in-law, LaDonna & Delmar Groen and Carol & Robert Dahlke; besides other relatives and friends.
