Rev. Floyd Olsen

Rev. Floyd O. Olsen, age 89, of New London, died Tuesday afternoon, June 6, at Cedar Crest Care Center in Silver Lake.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 9, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in New London. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. (www.petersonbrothers.com)
Floyd Oscar Olsen was born on a dairy farm near Greenwood, Wisconsin on October 9th 1927 to Christian and Angeline (Dyre) Olsen. He graduated from Loyal High School in 1945 after making the all state conference team in basketball. He earned his pilot's license and loved to fly small planes. He still carried his pilot's license in his wallet at the time of his death. After high school he built silos and farmed with his dad for four years until receiving the call to become a minister. He graduated from Wartburg seminary in 1957 and just celebrated his 60 anniversary of his ordination. He married Beverly Kobs Paasch, the love of his life, on August 22nd 1953 and they were married for 62 years until her death in 2015. He served parishes in Wausau, Wisconsin; Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Des Moines, Iowa; Joyce, Iowa; Whitewater, Wisconsin; Deerfield, Wisconsin; and Willmar, Minnesota.  He had a great love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping, canoeing and fishing. He also enjoyed visiting and spending time with people.
He is survived by four children, Christian (Terri) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Timothy (Deb) of Madison, Wisconsin; Daniel (Lilla) of Northfield, Minnesota and Ellen Peterson (Al) of Castle Danger, Minnesota. He is also survived by his brother John (Gladys) and his sister Ella Stevens, brother in law Harland (Diane) Kobs and brother in law Pastor Darrell (Terri) Kobs. He has eleven  grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, besides other relative and friends.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and four brothers; Conrad, Vern, Howard and Arthur Olsen.
