Orlo C. Almlie, age 81, of rural Kandiyohi, passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 27, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Bethel Lutheran Church.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Willmar Public School Foundation are preferred.  Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Orlo Curtis Almlie was born on October 21, 1938, in Mayville, North Dakota, the son of Melvin and Gunda (Ulland) Almlie.  He grew up on a farm near Mayville and graduated from Clifford High School in 1956.  Orlo attended Mayville State University, earning a Bachelors degree in Education and then North Dakota State University earning a Masters degree in Administration.  While in college, he served for several years in the North Dakota National Guard.  On July 21, 1962, in Mayville, Orlo was united in marriage to Helen Marie Strom.  They made their home in Fargo, ND where Orlo began teaching.  Orlo was a school administrator for over 30 years, working and living in the communities of Raymond, Grove City, Dassel, and Willmar.  Orlo retired  in 1996.  He was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Willmar Noon Kiwanis, Sons of Norway, Willmar Public School Foundation, Fahlun Township Board, Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, and numerous other community service organizations.  Orlo enjoyed farming (both crops and cattle), gardening, attending school events (athletic and fine art), especially watching his grandchildren's events and the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre.  He also enjoyed attending area farm sales and auctions.

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; four children, Jon (and Tami) Almlie of Belle Plain, Joel (and Hyang Suk) Almlie of Odenton, MD., Joanna (and Matt) Schrupp of Willmar, and Jennifer (and Chris) Wirth of Breezy Point; and eight grandchildren, Erin, Christopher, Joseph, Aaron, Paul, Paighton, Presleigh, and Mae.  Also surviving are two brothers, Curtis (and Marlene) Almlie of Arizona and Dale (and Ann) Almlie of Washington, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Curtiss and Marcus.
