Mark Steven Peterson

Mark S. Peterson, age 71, of rural Atwater, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, October 3, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 9, at the Willmar Assembly of God Church.  A private interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.  Arrangements are entrusted to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Mark Steven Peterson was born on April 24, 1952, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Lawrence and Nancy (Olson) Peterson.  He grew up in Atwater and graduated from Atwater High School in 1970.  Mark enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1971-1973.  Following his service to his country, Mark began employment with the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier.  On June 12, 1993, Mark was united in marriage to Pamela Jean Wiegmann.  They lived in the Atwater community and were blessed with two daughters, Shay and Kylie.  In 2019, Mark retired after 41 years of employment as a letter carrier in Willmar.  Most recently he worked part-time at Menards in Willmar.  He was a former member of the Atwater Fire Department, the Atwater American Legion Post and the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC).  Mark enjoyed visiting the library and reading books on WW II and Vietnam, watching western movies, having coffee with "the guys", and just being outdoors in nature.  He had an energetic personality and was always ready to go.  God bless his memory!

He is survived by his loving wife, Pam; two daughters, Shay (and Bradley) Wollum of Wadena and Kylie Peterson of Marshall; one grandson, Wilder Wollum; and two brothers, Don (and Ann) Peterson of Atwater and Stanley (and Mary) Peterson of Atwater, besides other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Wayne Peterson.
