Marc Reese

September 15, 1942 — October 24, 2021

Marc L. Reese, age 79 of rural New London, passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 24, at his residence following an extended illness.  He was on Hospice at home with his wife, Kathy caring for him.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, at Peace Lutheran Church.  Interment will be at Eagle Lake Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Military honors will be provided by the Henderson-Lewis American Legion Post #545.  Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Marc L. Reese was born on September 15, 1942, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Leo Merton and Florence Reese.  He was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church and grew up and attended schools in Willmar.

Marc was united in Marriage to Katherine J. Baklund on February 22, 1964, at Eagle Lake Lutheran Church and they were blessed with two children, James and Jennifer.

Marc served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He became a Mason, working his trade until retirement.

Marc had a great interest in genealogy.  As a member of the Norway Lake Historical Society, Marc worked on these projects: log church, interpretive building and reconstructing the log cabin of Ole Knudson, his great grandfather.  At Prairie Woods Environment Learning Center, Marc built the chimney and stone base and assisted with the flooring of the log cabin of Peder Reese, his great grandfather.  He also maintained the chinking on all the buildings that he helped restore.

Marc loved restoring vintage cars; the 1965 Pontiac GTO was his favorite restoration.

Marc is survived by his wife, Kathy; their two children, James Reese of Maine and Jennifer (and Erik) Hykes of Colorado; five grandchildren, Levi Hykes, Morgan Hykes, Ruby Theisen, Forrest Reese, Amethyst Ewell Reese and one great granddaughter, Brooke Doolittle, the daughter of Amethyst.  Also surviving are six siblings, Lorna Reese Kanzer, Lee (and Shelvia) Reese, Linda Reese, Michael Reese, Jodi (and John) Vosika, Jon (and Sandy) Reese; and Marc’s brother-in-law, Dale (and Nancy) Baklund, sisters-in-law, Sylvia (and Quentin) Koll, Mary (and Jerry) Lindor; Kathy’s two aunts, Ruth Westphal and Roma Fostervold, besides many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Clarion and mother-in-law, Harriet Baklund and brothers-in-law, Len Kanzer, Sherlan (and Sharon) Baker, Clair (and Mary E.) Baklund and Steve Paulson.
