Mabel Nelson

Mabel Otelia Nelson, age 105, of Grove City, died Sunday evening, March 18, at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove City with Rev. Daniel DeBlock officiating. Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Grove City. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m Friday at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Atwater Funeral Home.
Mabel Otelia Nelson was born July 10, 1901, in Acton Township, Meeker County, the daughter of Albert R. and Christine (Martinson) Brown. She was the oldest of seven children. She grew up in the rural Grove City community, was baptized and confirmed in Arndahl Lutheran Church and attended District 38 country school. On October 18, 1922, she married Lloyd M. Nelson at the farm home with Donald Peterson and Myrtle Brown serving as attendants. Lloyd and Mabel moved to Rosendale in 1922 and into Grove City in 1932. Mabel was church organist for 50 years at Arndahl Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grove City. She moved to Bethany Nursing Home in Litchfield in 1994 and to Emmanuel Home in 1995. She was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Ladies Aid, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Foreign Shoppers Club, Grove City Women's Club, Garden Club and a Birthday club.
She is survived by two sons, Stanley (and Corrine) Nelson and Lester (and Ila) Nelson, both of Grove City; a daughter, Eileen McCoy of Plymouth; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; a daughter, Norma Olson; three brothers, Otis Brown, Vernon Brown and Kenneth Brown; three sisters, Myrtle Larson, Stella Nelson and Evelyn Kittelson; a granddaughter, Barbara Murphy and a great-grandson, Kris Dobbs.
