LuAnna Kern, age 63, of Willmar, died Sunday evening, July 1, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 6, at First United Methodist Church in Raymond. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 5, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
LuAnna Jean Kern was born July 1, 1955, in Hallock, Minnesota, the daughter of Leslie and Annabelle (Bill) Kern. She grew up in Pembina and Mayville, North Dakota before moving with her family to Raymond, Minnesota in 1969. She graduated from Raymond High School in 1973 and from St. Cloud Technical College with Child Care Technician degree. LuAnna worked in various group homes and at the State Hospital. She later worked as a nanny in Connecticut and at group homes in Arizona before moving to Willmar in 2014. LuAnna currently worked as a manager of group homes for Divine House in Willmar.
LuAnna was very active with Special Olympics in both Arizona and Willmar. She enjoyed quilting with her mother and gardening, especially caring for her roses. She also enjoyed traveling and had visited nearly every state. She loved spending time with her family at the lake. She was a wonderful caregiver to her family, friends, and consumers. Her greatest joy was being an "auntie" to her beloved niece and nephews and their families.
She is survived by a brother: Leslie "Skip" (and Nancy) Kern; two sisters: Maureen (and Bradley) Dykema and Janet (and David) Johnson; four nephews: Cory (and Kristen) Kern and their children Madalyn and Conner, Jay Kern and his children Cam and Max, Reid (and Jamie) Dykema and their child Nolan, and Eric Johnson; a niece: Tara Dykema; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
