Lee E. Elton, age 72, of Atwater, died Thursday afternoon, Sept. 5, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at St. John Lutheran Church in Atwater.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, at the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home.  A private family interment will be held at Union Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Atwater Area Help for Seniors program are preferred.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Lee Everett Elton was born on November 28, 1946, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Thomas Albin and Ruth Evelyn (Peterson) Elton.  He grew up in Atwater, was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and graduated from Atwater High School in 1964.  In June of 1970, Lee was married to Kay Wittman.  They lived south of Atwater and were divorced in 1982.  In 1983, Lee partnered with his brother, Tim at the Elton Gravel Pit.  In August of 1985, Lee was married to Sherry Heining and they made their home in the Atwater community.  Lee’s hobbies included deer hunting, watching football and debating on “hot topics”.  He will be best remembered for his strong faith, focused opinions and being a honest hard worker.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry of Atwater; two sons, Braum (and Shannon) Elton of Atwater and Kirk (and Christina) Elton of Kandiyohi; three step-children, Lisa Bjerke of Willmar, Mike (and Nancy) Bjerke of Hutchinson and Joel (and Nichole) Bjerke of Buffalo; ten grandchildren and two brothers, Tim (and Donna) Elton of Atwater and Bruce Elton of Atwater, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
