Karen Holst

March 31, 1943 — July 2, 2016

Karen A. Holst, age 73, of Spicer, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, July 2, at her home in Spicer.

Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, July 7, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be at 1 P.M. Friday, July 8, at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Steen, Minnesota. Visitation will be 5-8 P.M. Wednesday at Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and one hour prior to the service at the church in Willmar. Memorials are preferred to the Lions Eye Bank in Minneapolis or Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar.

Karen Ardis Holst was born on March 31, 1943 in Hutchinson, Minnesota, the daughter of Ardis E. (Trapp) and Marvin Maynard Schiro. She grew up in Hector, Minnesota, and received her education in the Hector schools, graduating in 1961. She went to work for Citizens State Bank in Olivia and later moved to Willmar and worked at Citizens National Bank. On May 13, 1967, she was married to Edwin Albert Holst at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector and they made their home in the Spicer area. This union was blessed with one son, Kevin. She ended her banking career after 28 years and went to work for FSMC of Lake Lillian and later in the accounting department of Walmart in Willmar until her retirement in 2009. She enjoyed reading, visiting with family and friends, going to lunch and sending greeting cards for all occasions. Karen was active in her community, serving as President of the Senior Citizens Club in Spicer, member of the Spicer American Legion Auxiliary and a 20 year active member of the Spicer Sunrise Lions Club. She served as President and as a tail twister in the Lions Club.

She is survived by her husband, Ed of Spicer and one son, Kevin (and Sarah) Holst of Lafayette, Colorado. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Ella and Margaret Holst and one brother, Gerald (and Sue) Schiro of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, mother and father-in-law and sister-in-law, Jolene Shiro.
