John Kojetin

June 26, 1934 — February 9, 2007

John P. Kojetin, age 72, of Willmar, died Friday evening, Feb. 9, at the Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar with Fr. Joseph Steinbeisser officiating. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. with Parish Prayers at 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday..
John was born on June 26, 1934, on the family farm in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota, the son of Wencel E. and Catherine (Kodet) Kojetin. He grew up in the Bechyn community, was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn and graduated from Morton High School in 1952. John served in the U.S. Army National Guards from 1957 to 1960 and was discharged from the U.S. Army Reserves on April 30, 1963, serving with the Olivia unit. On August 21, 1958, in Bechyn, he was united in marriage to Marie Dorothy Malecek. They lived and farmed on the family's homestead near Bechyn. He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn, serving on the church board and other committees and current member of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. In 1982, they moved to Willmar. From 1986 to 1996, they managed the Lakeland Apartments and he also owned and operated a lawn mowing business in Willmar for many years.
John enjoyed being outdoors riding his John Deere lawn mower and sitting on his deck watching his grandchildren play. He also enjoyed deer hunting, ice fishing, playing card games, shaking dice, doing word finds, watching sports on television and having coffee with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; his five children, Helen Pusillo of Willmar, John J. (and Jana) Kojetin of Atwater, Lori (and Joe) Ridler of Willmar, Anne (and Larry) Mehr of Willmar and Tammy (and Mark) Ringger of Sauk Rapids and ten grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Wencel J. (and Carol) Kojetin of Morton and two sisters, Regina (and Ellsworth) Pockrandt of Gibbon and Mary (and John) Nordby of St. Cloud, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Theresa.
