Joel Kent Vreeman was born on June 28, 1963, in Willmar, Minnesota, to Clayton and Inez (Zimmer) Vreeman. Through his growing up years, he attended Clara City Schools and graduated in 1981.  Always a lover of music, he played the tuba and bass guitar in the pep and jazz band and later traveled with the Carpenter Tools.  Soon after, he moved to California to pursue a degree in Ministry and also found The Love of His Life, Sherri Ann (Hoyt). Sensing a call on his life to share the gospel of Jesus Christ he later traveled with the band,  Ekklesia, where he joyfully used the gifts God gave him.

Excited to start their lives together, Joel and Sherri were united in marriage on March 22, 1986. They made their home in Clara City, Raymond, and eventually in Willmar. To this union they were blessed with three beautiful children.

In 1988, Joel joined his father and brothers, Terry and Nathan Vreeman in the ownership and operation of Vreeman Construction, where he continued until his retirement from the company in 2022.

Many would identify Joel as a lay minister, but we all know that he was a full-time minister for the kingdom of God, evident in his daily passion to reach people with the saving grace of Jesus Christ. He lived out his faith every single day of his life here on this earth.  This was clearly seen in his desire to bring in the harvest of souls as he traveled across the world to India, and also in his everyday life as he shared with people around him and in countless hours in prayers and petitions to the Lord.  Joel was actively involved with Doterra and Matthew 10.

Joel’s hobbies included golfing, working out, walking on the beach, grilling and spending time with his family.

Joel was a kind-hearted, loving, and dedicated man who loved Jesus more than anything, and was devoted to serving and supporting his family, which was his greatest earthly treasure.

Joel is survived by his loving wife, Sherri; three children, Chelsea Layne (and Joshua) Axe of Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico, Brooke Lauren (and Bryson) Siemon of Nashville, TN., and Noah Joel Vreeman of Juno, FL.; and two beloved granddaughters, Arwyn and Aylin Axe. Also surviving are his three siblings, Terry (and Laurie) Vreeman of Spicer, Rhonda (and Dan) Freiborg of Spicer, and Nathan (and Wendi) Vreeman of Willmar; and a brother in-law, Jeff (and Deb) Hoyt of Otsego; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; Bob and Ricky Hoyt, and his baby daughter, Summer.
