Jean Osteraas, age 92, of St. Paul, passed away Wednesday, August 27, at Rivers of Life Assisted Living in Eagan.
A private interment service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. A public celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
A. Jean Osteraas was born on September 13, 1932, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of David and Frances (Nelson) Osteraas. She grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in 1950. She attended the University of Minnesota and earned a degree in Chemistry.
A trailblazer for women in science, Jean authored and coauthored many scientific papers and hold patents. Her work at ADM, General Dynamics (Control Data) and Donaldson Company involved research and development in several areas. She was known as the prime problem solver/trouble shooter for very difficult and costly problems. Jean was a humble genius.
She is survived by her brother, Jerry (and Carol) Osteraas of Inver Grove Heights, besides many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jack; and two beloved cats, Lionell Ulysses and Harryburn.
