Janet Louise Scheltens

January 20, 1957 — April 21, 2022

Janet Louise Scheltens, age 65, of Raymond, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 21.

 

A private memorial service will be held for the family at a later time in New York, where Jan will be brought back to rest with other beloved family members who have passed before her including her parents, brother, and grandparents.  Arrangements are entrusted to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.  www.petersonbrothers.com

 

She was born January 20, 1957, in Battle Creek, Michigan, to Eugene and Dorothy Sipps. In her childhood, she lived in Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota.  She graduated from Olivia High School in 1975.  She met Paul Scheltens on Valentine's Day in 1975 and they were married the next year on Valentine's Day.  During their 46 years of marriage they were blessed with two children. Stacy and Sarah and lived on the family farm near Raymond, MN. 

 

After spending years at home raising their girls, Jan started work in 1991 at a local men's store, Ken's Casuals, where she later became co-owner until it closed in 2015.  She then spent the last six years working as a special education paraprofessional at MACCRAY East Elementary. 

 

She will be remembered for her creative touch with her home decorating throughout the year, but especially at Christmas.  Jan had a passion for antiques and collectibles as well as flower gardening that was enjoyed by her family, friends, and the community during local garden tours.  She was also known for talking about her love of her family, especially her five grandchildren. 

 

Her memory will be treasured and her presence missed by her husband, Paul; two daughters, Stacy (Jeff) and Sarah (Nathan) Boerboom; five grandchildren, Hunter (Bianca), Tanner, Sydney, Jonathan, and Hadley; one sister, Karen (Lynn) Fuqua; nieces, Angela (Bobby) Westberry and Emily (John) Stapleton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Patrick and Ann Gunter; and sister-in-law, Julie Scheltens; besides other relatives and friends, including her co-workers and students at MACCRAY East Elementary.
