James Wick

November 9, 1936 — April 7, 2019

James Wick, age 82, of Sunburg, died Sunday afternoon, April 7, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 29, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg with visitation two hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at West Norway Lake Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Sunburg Funeral Home.

James “Jimmy” Earlen Wick was born on November 9, 1936 in Kandiyohi County, near Sunburg, Minnesota, to John and Inger (Peterson) Wick.  He was baptized on December 25, 1936 at West Norway Lake Lutheran Church.  He grew up with his two older brothers and one sister on the family farm.  He attended grades 1-6 at District 59 School and high school at Kerkhoven High School.  He worked various job in the area before moving to St. Paul in 1955.  On October 5, 1957, he married  Sandra Ellingson and they made their home and raised their two children, Lori and Kevin, in St. Paul.  Jimmy worked at the Ford Assembly Plant in St. Paul until his retirement. In 1992, they moved back to the family farm near Sunburg where they have lived since.

Jimmy served on the Norway Lake Township Board as a Supervisor for 10 years.  He loved to hunt and fish, and went on many fishing trips to northern Minnesota and Canada.  He enjoyed the many family camping trips to National Parks and other areas in the United States.    He also enjoyed dancing, especially the Polka, and taking trips to Las Vegas and visiting casinos.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra; his children, Lori (and Bruce) Meehan of Chisago City, MN and Kevin (and Kim) Wick of Forest Lake, MN; four grandchildren, Shaylene (and Jeremy) Baumbach of Byron, MN, Breanne (and Marc) Hanscom of Hugo, MN, John Wick of White Bear Lake, MN, and Katie Wick of Blaine, MN; five great-grandchildren, Aprelle, Madison, Taylor, Jadyn, and Kylie; a brother-in-law, Greg (and Deb) Ellingson of Woodruff, WI; his nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ellsworth and Wenzell; and a sister, Myrtice.
