James Robertson

James E. Robertson, age 85, of Willmar, died Sunday morning, Sept. 17th, at the Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, September 21st, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar will Rev. Pablo Obregon officiating. The interment will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery and military honors will be provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 of Willmar. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M., Wednesday and one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
James Edward Robertson was born on November 15, 1920, in Sandstone, Minnesota, the son of Ruth Ethel (Anderson) and William Francis Robertson. At the age of two, he moved with his family to Willmar. He grew up here and was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church. James received his education in the Willmar schools and graduated Willmar High School in 1938. He moved to Eugene, Oregon, where he worked for about two years before entering the U.S. Army in 1942. He served overseas and was discharged in 1945. He returned to Willmar and was married to Floreen Luella Hawks on March 17, 1947 and they made their home in Willmar where James worked for Quality Dairy for 10 years. He then went to work for the American Legion as manager/bartender for five years and later for the Willmar Post Office as a clerk for 18 years and retired in 1983. He was a member of the Willmar United Methodist Church and the Willmar V.F.W. and American Legion. James was a former member of the Valley Golf Club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading, crossword puzzles and teaching his grandchildren how to dunk cookie in coffee. James loved being with family and friends and especially enjoyed being with the children.
He is survived by one son, Alan (and Ursula) Robertson of Mora, two daughters, Linda (and Spencer) Owens of Wheeling, Missouri, and Pamela Strandberg of Willmar, four grandchilden, Mark Owens, Jason Robertson, Timothy Standberg, Chad Robertson and one great grandchild (Lana). Also surviving are three sisters, Dorothy Kleven of Willmar, Phyllis (Robert) Allen of Spicer and Joyce Davidson of Tampa, Florida. James was preceded in death by his parents, wife (Floreen in 2000), 1 granddaughter (Melissa Strandberg), one great granddaughter (Kari Para-Robertson), one brother (Kenneth) and one sister (Eleanor Penn).
