James "Jim" William Johnsen was born on October 6, 1943, in Fargo, North Dakota, the son of Melvin and Betty (Bernier) Johnsen.  He grew up in the Fargo community, graduated from Shanley High School in 1961 and St. John's University in 1965.  While in college, Jim entered the ROTC program. He earned the rank of Captain while serving in California in the U.S. Army (state side) during the Viet Nam war (65'-71').  On October 16, 1965, he was married to his college sweetheart, and love of his life, Patricia Ann Magee.  They resided in Oakland, California before moving to West St. Paul and later Alexandria where he worked as an engineer at 3M Company as a Production Control Officer.  In 2001, Jim retired due to health reasons.  He was an active member of the Kiwanis in Alexandria.  In 2021, they moved to Willmar to be closer to family.

Jim loved music and was a pianist and a very talented water skier.  He had a witty sense of humor and told the best "Dad Jokes".  He and his wife were "two peas in a pod" enjoying life together.  They both loved to watch the Timberwolves and Vikings and cherished spending precious time with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 58 years, Patricia; two children, Jennifer (and Rod) Lothert of Willmar and Bill (and Jenni) Johnsen of Belgrade, MT.; five grandchildren, Nick, Samantha, Ayla, Lydia and Wyatt; besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
