Harriet Nelson

WILLMAR

Harriet L. Nelson, age 77, of Willmar, formerly of the Atwater area, died Monday morning, April 24th, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, April 27th, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater with Rev. Daniel Belgum-Blad officiating. The interment will be in the Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M., Wednesday at the Atwater Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Harriet Leone Nelson was born on December 24, 1928 in Willmar, the daughter of Nettie (Westlund) and Sam Levin. She grew up in rural Atwater and graduated from Atwater High School in 1947. Harriet worked at the Pennock Creamery as a bookkeeper for about 5 years. On November 1, 1952, in Pennock, she was married to Reuben Nelson at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church and they made their home north of Willmar. In 1954 they moved to a farm north of Atwater. Harriet worked for a time at Fingerhut in Litchfield and later for the Atwater Creamery as a bookkeeper. In 1997 she moved to the Centennial Square Apartments in Willmar. Harriet was a long time active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. She loved being with family and friends and enjoyed sewing, needle work, crocheting, embroidery, gardening and attending the sporting events that her children and grandchildren participated in.
She is survived by five sons; Dale (and Karla) Nelson of Willmar, Donald Nelson of Lake Lillian, Earl (and Cheryl) Nelson of Spicer, Lloyd (and Julie) Nelson of Atwater and Virgil (and Dawn) Nelson of Atwater and three daughters; Marie (and Arlyn) VanderBeek of Atwater, Mavis (and Randy) Jones of Winsted and Lois (and William) Wittenberg of Renville. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren besides other relatives and friends. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Reuben in 1984), son (Gerald Nelson), grandson (Douglas Wittenberg), two brothers ( Chester and Robert Levin) and sister (Ruth VanderMeer).
