Harold Strom

Harold W. Strom, age 79, of Willmar, died Wednesday afternoon, May 16th at the Bethesda Pleasantview Nursing Home.
Memorial services will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, May 19th, at the United Methodist Church in Willmar, with Rev. Chad Gilbertson officiating. The interment will be at the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Austin F. Hanscom American Legion Post 167 and the Finstad-Weeks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1639, both of Willmar. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. Friday at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the services.
Harold William Strom was born on February 21, 1928, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Laura (Ness) and Albert Strom. He moved to the Litchfield area with his family and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1946. He joined the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. On October 19, 1950, in Ft. Lewis, Washington, he was married to Jeannette Becker. Following his discharge in December of 1951, they returned to the Kimball area and was self employed as a plumber and also served as Justice of the Peace. Harold also served as the Commander of the Legion in Kimball, was on the church board and on the Kimball Fire Department. He and his family moved to Willmar in 1962, where he worked for the Sears Store and later managed Knigge Plumbing and Heating. He opened his own plumbing business in 1971 and retired in 1980 due to health reasons.
Harold was a past member of the Willmar Fire Department, a Life Member of the Willmar V.F.W., United Methodist Church in Willmar, Governor's Advisory Board for the Minnesota Army National Guard, Minnesota Plumbing and Heating Association, West Central Plumbing Association, American Legion Post 167 of Willmar, a member of District 3 Eagles and a past president of the Willmar Eagles Club. He was also involved in Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts at the United Methodist Church in Willmar.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette of Willmar; nine children, Ronald (and Wendy) Strom of Spicer, Bob (and Curt Leiser) Strom of Willmar, Linda (and Lawrence) Mead of Spicer, Roger (and Sandy) Strom of Litchfield, Lana (and Tim) Carlson of Stanschfield, Richard (and Anita) Strom of Willmar, Russel Strom of Spicer, Lorene (and Joel) Freed of Svea and Ross (and Deborah) Strom of Willmar. Also surviving are twenty-eight grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and one sister, Lorraine Bengson of Litchfield, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter (Lois Bacon), one grandson in infancy and one brother, Marlin.
