Gregory P. Doerr, age 76, of Willmar, passed away Wednesday, August 26, at his home in the presence of family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Clara City. www.petersonbrothers.com
Greg was born on February 20, 1950, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Helen (Olstad) Doerr. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1968. On Labor Day weekend of 1976, Greg met the love of his life and was married seven months later, on April 29, 1977, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to Mary Jean Jaenisch and they made their home in Minneapolis for many years. Greg worked at the Ford plant in St. Paul for over 30 years. In 2002, they moved to Willmar and Greg retired the following year. They were both members of Vinje Lutheran Church.
Greg and Mary enjoyed dining out and traveling together throughout the United States. They went on many cruises along the East coast, West coast, and Alaska. He showed a tremendous love and care to his feline companions, his wife and family (especially his grandchildren).
Greg enjoyed caring for the family farm near Atwater, golfing, and collecting toy tractors. He cherished attending his grandchildren’s school activities and athletic events. He spent many mornings at LuLu Beans visiting with his friends over coffee. Greg will be best remembered for his sense of humor and kind heart.
He is survived by three grandchildren, Tyler Hayes, Kemry Stich and Ava Stich; one brother-in-law, Edwin Jaenisch of Willmar; and one sister-in-law, Sharon Jaenisch of Clara City; besides other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in January of 2025; his daughter, Lisa Hayes-Stich; one granddaughter, Rylie Hayes; brother-in-law, Robert Jaenisch; and brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Diane Jaenisch.
