Gloria Ida Amy Peterson (Magnuson), age 92, of rural Atwater, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 10, at her residence under hospice care.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 19, at the Harrison Presbyterian Church near Spicer. Interment will be at Oakside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at the Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Gloria Ida Amy (Magnuson) Peterson was born at home in rural Pennock on November 14, 1931, to Clifford and Amy (Yager) Magnuson. She was baptized on December 6, 1931, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Pennock.   She attended country school near Pennock up until the 4th grade after which time the family moved to a farm near Diamond Lake. Here she either walked, rode horse or biked and sometimes even skied to school at Diamond Lake, where she attended through the 8th grade. She attended her high school years at Atwater Public School where she graduated in 1949.  She was confirmed at Green Lake Lutheran Church, rural Spicer.

Gloria married Kenneth E Peterson of Spicer on July 30, 1950, at Harrison Community Presbyterian Church, rural Spicer.   To this union five children were born.   Together Kenneth and Gloria lived and farmed and milked cows for over 50 years on the home place where Kenneth was born. Gloria was a devoted farm wife and mother.  In 1982 they built a new home on Sperry Lake Road, rural Atwater.

Gloria was very active in her church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, Past President of the Ladies Aid, Elder and Clerk of Session, and was church custodian for over 20 years. She was recognized by the Presbytery of Minnesota Valleys for her hard work on the Session Records Committee.  She was also Past President of the Spicer American Legion Auxiliary.  Gloria was also Clerk for the Harrison Township for 15 years.  Gloria enjoyed cleaning cabins at Indian Beach Resort.  She also was a 4-H leader for many years. Gloria loved being outside mowing and keeping up her yard.  She mowed and took care of Oakside Cemetery for many years.

Gloria’s family was the most important part of her life, always putting her family first. She and Kenneth were able to enjoy many trips together.

Gloria is survived by her children, Brenda Powers, Gerald (Susan)Peterson, and Dennis Peterson all of Spicer; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth in 2011, daughter Cheryl Tauer in 2012, son David Peterson in 2022, brothers Ellsworth and Virgil Magnuson, and sister Joan Skrukrud.
