Gary Oliver Sherwood was born on November 11, 1936, in Bird Island, MN., the son of Glen and Marjorie (Beasley) Sherwood. He grew up and received his education in the Bird Island community. On June 8, 1957, he was united in marriage to Ruth Swanson and they made their home in the Willmar area. Gary was employed as a meat cutter and truck driver. Following his retirement, he raised and showed dogs around the central states, winning many awards and recognitions. Gary joined our Lord and Savior this past Saturday morning at Bethesda Heritage Ceneter in Willmar. He attained the age of 70 years, 2 months and 30 days.
Gary was known for his quick wit, one liners and sense of humor. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was truly our hero, in making everything needed and unneeded happen in his family and friends lives.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Ruth; six children, Donald (and Laurie) Sherwood of Willmar, Dan (and Terri) Sherwood of Mesa, AZ., Doyen (and Allen) Hillenbrand of Willmar, Douglas (and Linda) Sherwood of Litchfield, Deena (and Chad) Thoreson of St. Cloud and David Sherwood (and Stacie Jacobs) of St. Cloud; eighteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Bruce (and Mary) Sherwood of Mankato and one sister, Bonnie Stevens of Battle Lake, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Louise Sherwood and a brother in infancy.
