Florine Angeline Iverslie age 86, of New London, passed away Monday evening, Jun. 29, at Prairie Vista at Copperleaf.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to honor Florine’s life may be directed to Calvary Lutheran Church or Carris Health Rice Hospice. Florine Angeline Iverslie was born on February 3, 1934 in Montevideo, MN, the daughter of Alta and Norman Rittenour. As a young child, they moved from Montevideo to a farm near Benson. She graduated from Benson High School in 1952. Following graduation, she attended St. Olaf College for one year and graduated from the University of Minnesota obtaining a B.S. degree in education. She taught home economics at the high school in Gilbert, MN for one year and then jr. high in Richfield for one year.
She was united in marriage to Philip Iverslie on July 26, 1958 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Benson, MN. They lived in Minneapolis until 1973 when they moved to Willmar.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, served on the church council and was President of the Congregation in 1991, was a Stephen Minister, sang in the choir, organized the Advent Tea, made baptism quilts, and served on several committees. Church was an important part of her entire life.
Florine was an avid seamstress, volunteered at the Green Lake Bible Camp and the hospital gift shop, co-owned Creative Originals, was in the community band where she played the French horn, loved playing bridge and tennis with her friends, enjoyed the winter sports of ice skating and cross-country skiing, and was an incredible cook, who loved to entertain.
She is survived by her husband, Philip, her children: Karl (Nancy) Iverslie, Scott Iverslie, Peter Iverslie, and Ann (Kurt) Wagaman; her grandchildren; two brothers: Robert Rittenour and Mark (Jeannie) Rittenour; a sister-in-law: Jean Rittenour and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alta and Norman Rittenour and one brother, Merlyn Rittenour.
