Edith Maryanne (Huisinga) Johnson, age 98, of Willmar, passed away Thursday, July 10, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. followed by her funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, at the Willmar Assembly of God Church. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
Edith was born on April 5, 1927, on the family farm near Prinsburg, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Helga (Nelson) Huisinga. She grew up in the Prinsburg area attending District #103 school for her elementary education and then attended Clara City High School, graduating in 1945 as valedictorian. She attended North Central Bible Institute of Minneapolis and married Robert V. "Bob" Johnson of St. Paul on August 30, 1947. They made their home in Willmar and Edith worked as a bookkeeper at Central Sheet Metal Inc. and in sales at Setterberg Jewelry.
Edith was a member of the Willmar Assembly of God Church and was active in many areas. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Release Time and was the Sunday School Superintendent. She sang in the church choir, played in the church orchestra, served on the Missions Board and was the president of the Women's Ministries for many years.
Edith was active in the Willmar community as PTA President at Washington School, board member of Christian Women's Club, board member of the Salvation Army and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She was also a member of the Kandiyohi County Home Extension Homemakers Club and active with The League of Women's Voters.
Edith's hobbies included gardening, sewing, knitting, quilting and needle work. Edith enjoyed traveling within the United States and to many countries overseas.
Edith became a born-again Christian at the age of twelve and served the Lord her entire life.
She is survived by her children, Linelle (Lil) Johnson of Apple Valley, Ardelle (Mary) Johnson of Shorewood and Jody Gobats of Eveleth; four grandchildren, Kristine (Darin) Tosse, Jeremy (Laura) Johnson, Ina (Will) Drechsel and Kira (Jon) Pozonsky; six great grandchildren, Hannah Tosse, Cullen and Eastyn Drechsel, Saylor, Palmer and Cooper Pozonsky. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Ruthie Meyering; many nieces and nephews; and special extended family, Jum Jim Renier.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helga Huisinga; her husband, Robert in 2012; three brothers, Ralph (Alice) Huisinga, Robert (Verleene "Lennie") Huisinga and Roger Huisinga; one sister, Norma (Don) Tanner; daughter-in-law, Delores Johnson and son-in-law, Tommy Gobats.
