Earl Harley Ewoldt, son of Herman and Anna (Cohn) Ewoldt, was born July 18, 1925, in Paullina, Iowa. He attended school in Paullina and graduated in 1943. He entered the Navy in 1943 and served on the USS Rudyerd Bay (CVE-81) Escort Carrier which operated in the Pacific theater. After being discharged from the service in 1946, he worked for Ewoldt Motors and then went to work for Northern Natural Gas Co. also in 1946. In 1967, Earl was transferred by the Gas Co. to Willmar, Minnesota, retiring in 1984.

On April 3, 1949, Earl married Dolores Marian Pauling at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. They had three children, Susan, Kirk and Paul. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church while in Paullina and Redeemer Lutheran while in Willmar, Minnesota.

Earl enjoyed almost every sport, with golf, baseball and football on the top of the list. While in Paullina he belonged to the town team "Lakers" and also a coach/manager for VFW Peewee baseball in the late 50’s and early 60’s. He bowled on leagues in Paullina and Willmar. And spent every available minute on the golf course in Paullina and Willmar.

Earl and Dolores loved his Navy reunions, which were held in different corners of the United States.  Meeting up with old buddies and meeting new people. He was a member of both the VFW and American Legion.

Earl was always interested in what his grandkids and great grandkids were doing. He will be missed by many. Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Susan Lange of Rochester, Kirk (Judy) Ewoldt of Long Prairie and Paul Ewoldt of Elk River; four grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores in 2008; his parents; three brothers; one sister; a son-in-law, Greg Lange and twin granddaughters, Melanie and Melinda Lange.
