Douglas Grimm

December 1, 1920 — October 20, 2006

Douglas James Grimm, age 85, of Spicer, died Friday morning, Oct. 20, at Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, Oct. 23, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer with Rev. Simon Fensom and Rev. Matthew Peterson officiating. Interment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-5 P.M. on Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Douglas was born on December 1, 1920, in Hayfield, Minnesota, the son of Ralph and Mabel (Distad) Grimm. He grew up in the Hayfield community, graduated from Hayfield High School in 1938 and attended Winona State College and Mankato Business School. On February 22, 1941, he was married to Arlys Wenzel and made their home in Sausalito, CA. They moved to Mantorville, Minnesota where he worked as a surveyor for Olmsted County and later moved to Hector where he owned and operated Hector Plumbing, Heating and Electric, retiring in 1986. In 1990, they moved to Spicer. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Little Crow Country Club. Douglas enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling and watching sports.
He is survived by his wife, Arlys of Spicer; two children, Lowell Grimm (and special friend, Joleen Durken) of Hector and Gail (and Jerry) Johnson of Hector; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Jim Boe of Hayfield and a sister-in-law, Barbara Grimm of California, besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Richard; one daughter-in-law, Judy and one great granddaughter, Elizabeth.
