Don Vossen, age 82 of Plymouth and formerly of Willmar, passed away peacefully on November 24.
Don was born on February 24, 1940, and was raised in Willmar. He was the son of Valborg (Frieberg) and Raymond Vossen. Don graduated from Willmar Senior High School in 1959. He was driven and resourceful at an early age. He enjoyed success as a local stock car driver, often competing against his brother Arnie. He made lifelong friends from his racing days.
Don had lifelong rewarding career. He first worked as a barber in downtown Willmar and later owned and operated several Willmar area businesses, including The Snack Bar, D&C Auto Sales, DV Hauling, and Perkins Restaurant. He enjoyed living in Plymouth during his retirement years, spending time with family and taking in his grandsons’ activities and serving as their biggest fan.
He is survived by his daughter Michele (Bob) Martin of Plymouth; grandchildren Nick (Melissa) Martin of St. Paul and Max (Molly) Martin of Minnetonka; first wife, Jan Bauwens of Plymouth and second wife, Eva Vossen of Maple Grove. Also survived by siblings, Shirley (Jerry) Cherry of Bayport, Charlotte (Dave) Helmuth of Atwater, Gene Vossen; and sister-in-law, Kathy Vossen of Willmar, besides many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arnie Vossen, Jerry Vossen and Gary Vossen; sisters, Marilyn Vossen and Karen Carlson.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
