Obituary

Deloris Torguson, age 99, of Willmar, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at Prairie Vista Copperleaf after a life marked by devotion to her family, quiet strength, and steadfast love.

Deloris was born on November 19, 1926, in Langford, South Dakota, to Tom and Helen (Larson) Sandve. The second youngest of ten children, she grew up on the family farm in Marshall County, South Dakota, attending the local country schools in both Marshall and Day Counties. Deloris was a baptized and confirmed member of Falnes Lutheran Church of rural Langford where she also enjoyed attending Luther League events. Her childhood years were shaped by the hardships of the Great Depression and the years of World War II, and even as a young girl Deloris was known for pitching in to help her family with a spirit of selfless service that would define her entire life. In her younger years she lived in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Seattle, Washington, before returning to South Dakota to begin the next chapter of her life.

On August 20, 1950, Deloris married the love of her life, Roy Torguson, in Webster, South Dakota. Together they built a life and a family, raising four children while living in Webster, South Dakota; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Benson, Minnesota, before settling in Willmar in 1968, the place she would call home for the rest of her days.

A homemaker at heart, Deloris poured herself into caring for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy and her proudest legacy. She was a steady, loving presence through every season of life.

Deloris is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Torguson; her son, Rodney Torguson; her son-in-law, Dale Carlson; her parents, Tom and Helen Sandve; and her nine siblings: brothers Marvin, Lawrence, Howard, Lloyd, Henry (Arlene), Rueben, and Tamlin (Marjorie) Sandve. Sisters Hazel (Ernest) Swenson, and Maybelle (Clarence) Langager.

She is survived by her daughters Gail (Bill) Rockeman, Patricia (Charles) Rud, and Annette (Clyde) Tiffany; her grandchildren Sherri (Matt) Quinn, Kristi (Todd) Rizzo, Jessica Rud, Christopher (Tasha) Carlson, and Dustin (Emily) Carlson; eight great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren Laura (Luke) Hendrickson, Jessica (Jon) Tiffany, Andrew (Marisa) Tiffany, and Benjamin Tiffany; three step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Esther Sandve; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Prairie Vista Copperleaf for their compassionate care, as well as the nurses and aides from St. Croix Hospice.

Deloris lived 99 years with grace and an open heart. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
