David H. Schmidt, age 53, of Kerkhoven, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 3, at his residence.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. followed by his celebration of life service at 12 noon on Thursday, January 8, at the Kerkhoven Evangelical Free Church. Interment will be at a later date at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven. Arrangements are entrusted to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
David was born on January 21, 1972, in New Rockford, North Dakota, the son of Helmuth and Joyce (Gabbert) Schmidt. He grew up and received his education in Bloomington, Minnesota. In 1990, David moved to Willmar and began working for the Doug Finstrom family and their farming operation, a career that lasted over 35 years. He was also employed as an independent contractor for Synergy RV Transport, delivering RVs across the United Stated and Canada. He also had interests in gold mines in Idaho. David was gifted with many engineering and mechanical talents. He could repair most any farm or automotive equipment. David was also a gentle spirited person who loved animals and would help anyone in need.
He is survived by his father, Helmuth Schmidt of Cambridge; four siblings, Jon (and Holly) Schmidt – Davis of Atlanta, GA., Maria Schmidt of Burnsville; Dorothea “Dot” (and Dennis) Gaspord of Cambridge and Sara (and Steve) Henry of Cambridge; three nieces; two nephews; besides other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents.
