David Halliday

July 19, 1952 — March 26, 2017

David "Doc" Halliday, age 64, of Spicer, died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, March 26, at his home in rural Spicer.

A celebration of Doc's life will be held from 3-6 pm Wednesday, March 29, with a 3 pm time of remembrance at the Spicer American Legion. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer.

David Leo Halliday was born July 19, 1952, in Olivia, Minnesota, the son of Leo and Loretta (Tiechert) Halliday. He grew up and received his education in Olivia, graduating from Olivia High School in 1970. He then moved to Spicer and worked for Mel's in Spicer, Erickson Furniture in Willmar, and Iverson Engineering in New London. In 1974, he married Cindy Fruehling. David later was self-employed as a carpet layer for many years. In June 1984, he married Lorraine "Lori" Rausch and their marriage was blessed with two children, Carrie and Shawn. In 1988, David went back to school and attended Ridgewater College and later St. Cloud State University, graduating in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in real estate appraisal. David was co-owner of Latterell Appraisal and most recently worked as an assessor for Meeker County.

David was a member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association and loved working on classic Chevy's in his shop. He loved animals and his granddog, Tikka. He also loved spending time on Green Lake and watching sports, especially watching New London-Spicer football.

He is survived by his wife, Lori; two children, Carrie (and Brent) Miller of Royalton and Shawn Halliday (and special friend, Brooke Evans) of Royalton; five sisters, Bonnie (and Swede) Elfering of Bird Island, Pat Miller of Willmar; Sue (and Ed) Benson of Brooklyn Park, Judy (and John) Jacobs of Bird Island, and Mary (and Chuck) Nigut of Indianola, IA; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Cindy in 1979; a sister, Linda Rupp in 2011; and a sister, Jane Halliday in infancy.
