Audrey Jean Thompson

Audrey J. Thompson, age 84, of Atwater, passed away Wednesday morning, April 3, at Vista Prairie at Copperleaf in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Interment will be in the Green Lake Free Lutheran Cemetery in Spicer. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Audrey Jean Knudsen was born on March 10, 1940, near Kandiyohi, Minnesota, the daughter of Eugene and Violet (Dahl) Knudsen.  She grew up in the Kandiyohi community, was baptized at Calvary Lutheran Church, confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church and graduated from Willmar High School in 1958.

In 1960, Audrey was united in marriage to Terrance "Terry" Thompson.  To this union they were blessed with four children, Jean, Joel, James and Jan.  Audrey worked a short time at the Lakeland Medical Center and Arthur Snyder in Willmar.  Later they moved to Echo, and owned and operated the Citizens State Bank of Echo.  She worked part-time at the bank (mostly during the income tax season for over 22 years.)  After moving back to the Atwater area (on Diamond Lake), they owned and operated Thompson Bakery and Coffee House in Atwater for several years before retiring.

Audrey served on numerous church positions, as well as being elected as President of the Southwest Synod Women's Group of the ELCA.  She taught Sunday School and Confirmation class for a number of years.  She was also active with the Rice Hospice Organization in the Willmar area.  Audrey also traveled for 10-12 years with a group to teach VBS at LaRonge, Saskatchewan, Canada.  She also attended mission trips to Boliva and Peru in South America and Southeast Africa.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Terry; children, Jean (and Steven) Gladitsch, Joel Thompson (and friend, Laura), James Thompson and Jan (and Randy) Lambert; eight grandchildren, Lisa (and Gary) Zvorak, Timothy Gladitsch, Michael Gladitsch, Tyler (and Laura) Thompson, Tiffany Thompson, Jessica (and Karl) Krueger, Jordan Thompson, and Sean (and Victoria) Lambert; and six great grandchildren.  Also surviving are seven siblings, Marvis (and William) Hallberg, Norman (and Kladoris) Knudsen, Melvin (and Barbara) Knudsen, Wayne (and Kay) Knudsen, Carol (and David) Knudsen Hendrickson, Larry (and Debra) Knudsen and Darlene Knudsen; besides other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents.
