Adeline was born on March 25, 1928, in Raymond, Minnesota, the daughter of Theodore Sr. and Adelaide Haats. She was the youngest of ten children, was baptized at the Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City and confirmed in the United Methodist Church in Raymond. She grew up in Raymond and graduated from Raymond High School in 1946.
On November 18, 1949, Adeline was united in marriage to Orville Klemenhagen. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm in rural Lake Lillian, and were blessed with four children: Dale, Diane, LuAnn and Laura.
In addition to being a homemaker, Adeline helped Orville on the farm. She liked to garden and preserve produce by home canning. Adeline was known for her baking and always looked forward to rhubarb and apple season. She made delicious rhubarb torte and her family will tell you that she made the best apple pies! Getting together with friends and family for potlucks brought her joy. When living at the farm, she thought it was very exciting when a neighbor took her for a hang-gliding ride to overlook the farm. When they landed, she was told that one of the two belts broke. She was surprised when she heard that, but very glad they landed safely! She enjoyed hosting family holidays, spending time with her family, putting puzzles together, crocheting and knitting.
Adeline and Orville celebrated 65 years of marriage. They enjoyed old time dancing on Saturday nights and could be found at the Eagles Club in Willmar with all of their friends. Adeline was a member of Eagles Auxiliary, Aerie 2334. In 2002 she was named “Madam Eagle” by the Auxiliary, and Orville was named “Eagle of the Year”. It was the first time in local Eagle history that a husband-and-wife team were honored.
Adeline is survived by her daughters: Diane Behm of Plymouth, Laura (Timm) Hauer of Lake Lillian; daughter-in-law: Cindy Klemenhagen of Bloomington; six grandchildren: Nicole, Brian, Ryan, Melissa, Amanda and Brandon; fifteen great-grandchildren: Athena, Aurora, Artemis, Beatrix, Haley, Hunter, Taylor, Ava, Audrey, Elsie, Henry, Charlotte, Hannah, Olivia and Garrett; and one sister-in-law: Myrtle Haats; besides many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville Klemenhagen in 2015; son: Dale Klemenhagen in 2013; daughter: LuAnn Schultz in 1980; son-in-law: Bruce Behm in 2021; six brothers: John, Edward, Albert, Dick, Alvin and Theodore Jr.; three sisters: Tillie Freese, Katie Hoppe and Alice Huisenga; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
