Virginia Wiedeman

Virginia M. Wiedeman, age 78, of rural Spicer, died Sunday morning, November 10, at her home near Spicer following a short illness.

Friends may call from 4-7 P.M. Friday, November 15, at the Green Lake Funeral Home in Spicer. The interment will be in the Spicer City Cemetery 11 AM Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice, MinnDakotas Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Bloomington, Hawk Creek Animal Shelter in Willmar or donors choice.

Virginia Mae Wiedeman was born on September 18, 1935, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Mary E. (Walker) and Guy W. Shatto. She grew up in that community and received her education there, graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1954. She worked for the Council Bluffs Gas Company for several years. On September 2, 1956, she was married to Harley "Gus" A. Wiedeman and they made their home in Council Bluffs. In 1959 they moved to the Spicer area to work in the Wiedeman family business, Little Crow Marine - Sports Center. She was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church serving as Sunday school teacher and custodian and she was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Spicer. Virginia and Gus enjoyed hosting Foreign Exchange Students and college intern students for several years. She also was the site manager for Detlefs Senior Center, store clerk at Duber's Dumart and in the 1970's and 80's owned and operated her own craft store. Virginia was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, as she put it "a great Domestic Engineer". Virginia enjoyed watching the Vikings, Timberwolves and the Wild Hockey teams. She also enjoyed crafting, quilting, sewing, crocheting and shopping trips to St. Cloud for crafting supplies. She made quilts, bibs, heart pillows and walker - wheel chair pouches for the Veterans in St. Cloud and other places around the country. In her free time, she enjoyed baking cookies, bars, bread and making baby quilts for the new born in the area. Virginia also enjoyed camping, flower gardening, drives in the country, feeding the deer, birds and squirrels in the yard and the occasional trip to the casino. Her favorite time of day was in the morning, having coffee, spending time with her favorite cat, Rosie and getting her projects for the day ready.

She is survived by her husband: Harley "Gus" Wiedeman of Spicer; two sons: Thomas Wiedeman of Spicer and his sons, Mitchell, Matthew & Zachary; and Timothy Wiedeman of Fridley and his children, Miranda & Benjamin; besides other relatives and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary A. Shatto.
