Violet "Vi" E. Scovill, age 95, of Willmar, died Monday afternoon, Jan. 22, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Church of St. Mary. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Church of St. Mary are preferred.

Violet "Vi" Evangeline Scovill was born on August 4, 1922, on the family farm in Swift County near Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Mary Ann (Norton) Halsey. When Violet was a few years old her family moved to Willmar and she graduated from Willmar High School in 1940. On November 29, 1941, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Willmar, Vi was married to Charles Warren Scovill. When Charles left to serve overseas in the Army during WW II, Violet lived with her sister. Following the war, Violet and Charles made their home in Willmar. Violet was an active member of St. Mary's, the Daughters of Isabella and a familiar face on the funeral serving committee.

The coffee pot was always on and Violet welcomed family and friends to enjoy a cup and conversation. She loved to treat her family to special homemade treats. Violet was renowned for her blueberry pies made in a cake pan and pull-a-part caramel rolls. She and Charles enjoyed spending summers at several cabins that they built on Lake Florida and family camping trips to Cross Lake. Later in life, Violet and Charles enjoyed volunteering at Meals on Wheels in the Willmar community.

She is survived by her four children, Joan (and Mike) Madsen of Brooklyn Park, Chuck (and Jan) Scovill of Coon Rapids, Jan (and Bob) Saulsbury of Willmar and Mary Scovill (and Tom Jaeger) of Mapleton; ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Shirley Halsey of Willmar, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles in 1996; six brothers and five sisters.
