Vernon Goodmund

Vernon Goodmund, age 87, of Blomkest, died Wednesday morning, July 27, at his home in Blomkest following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 1, at Roseland Reformed Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar, www.petersonbrothers.com.

Vernon Lyle Goodmund was born February 5, 1929, on the family farm near Russell, Minnesota, the son of Oscar and Luella (Larsen) Goodmund. He grew up and received his education in the Russell area. He graduated from Russell High School and attended rural teacher training. On September 4, 1965, he married Beverly Vande Kieft in Pipestone. In July 1974, they moved to Blomkest. Vernon worked for 39 years for the Minnesota Department of Transportation in Willmar in the Soil Department and routing snow plows.

He was a former member of Blomkest Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer and a current member of Roseland Reformed Church. He had also served as treasurer for the City of Blomkest and the Blomkest Sportsmen's Club. Vernon enjoyed his 26 years of retirement, especially the time spent gardening and camping. He also enjoyed listening to polka music, feeding and watching birds, visiting with family and friends; and going to restaurants, especially the Food Garage or Pizza Ranch for chicken legs, which he shared with his dog, Charlie.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Goodmund of Blomkest; a daughter, Bonnie (and Dennis) Wrobleski of Willmar; two sons, Gordy (and Rita) Goodmund and Gary Goodmund, both of Gresham, OR; four grandchildren, Shannin (and Troy) Nielson, Jesse Clark, Tina Goodmund, and Triste (and Seth) Horrell; ten great-grandchildren; and two-great-grandchildren. Also survived are a brother, Duane (and Rosella) Goodmund of Marshall; a brother-in-law, John (and Elaine) Vande Keift of Pipestone; his goddaughter, Jennifer; his beloved dog, Charlie; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Warren Goodmund; and two nephews, Jimmy and Keith.
