Susan R. Whitcomb, age 48, of rural Lake Lillian , died Friday morning, May 16, at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor , Florida .
Services will held at 11 AM, Thursday, May 22, at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos. The interment will be in the Cosmos Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM at the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home in Atwater and at the church one hour prior to the service. (www.petersonbrothers.com)
Susan Renee Whitcomb was born on November 9, 1965 in Hutchinson, Minnesota, the daughter of Donavon and Esther M. (Wiehr) Bluhm. She grew up and received her education in Cosmos, graduating from Cosmos High School in 1984. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos. On August 31, 1985, she was married to Steven Allen Whitcomb and they made their home in the Lake Lillian area. She worked for a short time making quilts in Litchfield and with Green Giant, but worked mostly with Steven, raising their children and working in the family business. Sue enjoyed helping in her community and helped with the fundraiser for playground equipment at the Cosmos School and for the past 15 years has been active with the community theater in Cosmos. She worked as a stage hand and had also been an assistant director. She loved being with her family, attending the children's school activities and just being involved in their lives. She even home schooled the oldest three children for their first years. Sue enjoyed gardening, she sold produce at the public markets in the area for a few years, canning, cooking and camping. The children said they will miss her smile, her good sense of humor and knowing that she was always there for them.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years and best friend, Steven of rural Lake Lillian; 4 sons, Kyle Whitcomb (and fiance, Alissa Stai) of Lake Lillian, Travis Whitcomb (and fiance, Breanna Nelson) of Hutchinson, Matthew Whitcomb of Lake Lillian and Jacob Whitcomb of Lake Lillian; and 2 daughters, Kelsey Whitcomb (and significant other, Dylan Zaeska) of Lake Lillian and Tracey Whitcomb (and fiance, Preston Rogers) of Lake Lillian. Also surviving are two grandsons, Hunter Zaeska and Ayden Rogers; two expected grandchildren; her mother, Esther Bluhm of Cosmos; and a sister, Diane (and Calvin) McClain of Lake Lillian; besides other relative and friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her father in 2009 and one son Zachariah in 2004.
