Mary Malvin

July 16, 1938 — April 26, 2016

Mary J. Malvin, age 77, of Atwater, died Tuesday morning, April 26, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater. Interment will be at Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
Mary Jean Malvin was born on July 16, 1938, on the family farm in Lake Lillian, Minnesota, the daughter of Richard and Viola (Gusey) Olson. She grew up in the Lake Lillian community and graduated from Bird Island High School in 1956. On November 24, 1956, Mary was married to Michael C. Malvin. They lived and farmed for a short time in the Lake Lillian area before moving to Atwater where they lived and farmed. Mary worked hard as a homemaker and helped with the farming. She was most recently employed with the Presbyterian Family Foundation as a personal care assistant. She was a past member of the Atwater United Methodist Church. She enjoyed baking, gardening and spending valued time with her family and loved ones. Mary had a special bond with all her grandchildren and they shared wonderful memories of the farm. Mary had a compassionate personality and was always willing to help others in need. She had a strong faith and was always eager to share the message of God's salvation.
She is survived by her six children, Cindy (and Timothy) Larcom of St. Cloud, Sharon (and Frank) Brandt of Sartell, Bonnie (and Lee) Harrier of Willmar, David Malvin of Atwater, Carolyn (and Peter) Klinghagen of Grove City and Darin (and Kari) Malvin of Atwater; seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Richard (and Sherry) Olson of Sunburg and two sisters, Betty Jacobson of Tyler and Sally (and Robert) Wog of Gallatin, TN., besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael in 1995; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Jacobson.
