Lorna Hanson

Lorna A. Hanson, age 97, of Atwater, died Saturday morning, Feb. 15, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, Feb. 21, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater.  Interment will be at Church Hill Cemetery near Hector.  Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, Feb. 20, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Atwater and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Atwater Block Nursing Program are preferred.  Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Lorna Averna Hanson was born on March 17, 1922, near Hector, Minnesota, the daughter of Elmer and Anna (Polifka) Jensen.  She grew up and received her education in the Thorpe community.  On June 30, 1942, Lorna was united in marriage to Kermit H. Hanson.  They lived in Sturgis, South Dakota and Augusta, Georgia before moving to Minnesota and residing in Two Harbors and Milan.  From 1952 to 1975, they lived in Babbitt before moving to the Atwater community.  Lorna was a former member of Arndahl Lutheran Church and current member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  She was active in her church women's quilting group and was active with the Atwater Block Nursing Program.  Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, cooking and playing whist and canasta card games.

She is survived by three sons, Daven (and Orrine) Hanson of Little Falls, Darrell (and Adele) Hanson of Duluth and Orion (and Lynette) Hanson of Atwater; six grandchildren, Keely (and Rich) Perrizo, Blake Hanson, Craig (and Jennifer) Hanson, Travis (and Christina) Hanson, Joanna Hanson and Jessie Hanson; eight great grandchildren, Matt Peckham, Atlanta, Henrik, Anders, Astrid and Freya Hanson and Autumn and Chole Hanson.  Also surviving is one sister, Ardis Melbie of Princeton and nephew, Dale Melbie of Princeton, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kermit in 1983; and one sister, Ordella in infancy.
