LaVaughn Appelgren

LaVaughn M. Appelgren, age 104, of Willmar died Tuesday morning, January 6, at the Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar.
Services will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, January 9, at First Covenant Church in Willmar. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials are preferred to the First Covenant Church in Minneapolis or the First Covenant Church in Willmar.
LaVaughn Marie Appelgren was born on June 18, 1910, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Adolph J and Mary O. (Olson) Appelgren. She received her education in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School. She was baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Covenant Church in Willmar. She worked for a few years in Willmar at the Betty Lou Shop, before moving to Minneapolis, where she worked as a manager of women's apparel shops. LaVaughn later went to work for Harold's Department Store in Minneapolis and worked there for 31 years. She was an active member of First Covenant Church in Minneapolis and has been a member of First Covenant Church in Willmar since 1998, when she moved back to Willmar to be close to her brothers. LaVaughn lived in her own apartment until moving to Bethesda Heritage Center in the fall of 2003. She loved being with family and friends, going out to eat, the opera, traveling and fishing. LaVaughn was also a caregiver for several family members.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews along with their families; several cousins; and other relatives and friends.
LaVaughn was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Gladys Appelgren and Marian Rydland; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Myrel and Jean, Lawrence and Goldie, Wilbur and Fern, and Richard and Lillian Appelgren.
