Laura Buckley-Commerford

Laura Buckley-Commerford, age 64, of Spicer, passed away at her home on January 29, 2021. Due to COVID restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.  www.petersonbrothers.com

Laura was born in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, on June 6, 1956, the daughter of Bob and Shirley (Hanley) Buckley.  Upon graduating from high school in Colorado, Laura returned to the Spicer area where her father just opened the Green Lake Nursery in 1976.  There she met her husband, Danny Commerford, and they were married in 1982.

After returning to college, Laura graduated Summa cum laude, from St. Cloud State University in 1990 with a degree in accounting.  With more than 20 years of employment as a CPA with Westberg/Eischens in Willmar, Laura retired early due to health concerns this past fall.

Laura had many interests but cooking and visiting her family in Hawaii were her highlights.  A beautiful day for Laura would be a great cup of coffee, ½ day of work, walking the dogs at Sibley Park and enjoying the sunset with Danny at the cabin.

Laura is survived by her husband Danny of Spicer; sister Julie (and Gerry) Mansell of Kailua, Hawaii; brothers: Tom (and Laurie) Buckley of the Twins Cities, David (and Barb) Buckley of Centuria, WI, nieces and nephews, along with many great friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Pam.

I am so sorry to hear of Lauras passing. I am a person who spent time with Laura only once or twice a year but I just loved her. I would drop off my taxes and she would spend time with me... like we were old girlfriends and had to catch up. We talked marriage, dogs, cats, jobs, kids and food. No matter how busy... we would talk seriously 45 minutes during tax season. I dont know... we just had something. I looked forward to my time with Laura each new year. She loved you, and her dogs. I am so lucky to have found her and she was a fantastic accountant. I will miss her. I am so sorry.

Danny I am so sorry for your loss, Im a phone call away if you ever need anything. For those that didnt know Laura, she can be summed up in one word though she was definitely more complex than one word can say. She was a very genuine person. She was/is my aunt. Whenever we would just be sitting around, Danny, her, me and Devon she would break into these dances. She would have this huge Buckley grin on her face and her laugh could engolf us all in endless laughs. She loved without end and held nothing back. She enhanced my childhood greatly and even into adulthood she was most certainly just as influential and important. One memory I have that always seems to surface is one weekend in my twenties I was in Spicer. Laura and I went to the bar. We both ordered drinks. Laura got carded, I didnt. We both laughed about it and had a blast. She was always good at making people laugh and she never had to try very hard. I have more memories than I can count of her that I will always hold onto and cherish. My cousin Louise summed it up well when she said that Laura taught her to be unapologetically herself, I echo that statement and will never apologize for anything that makes me who I am. I love you to the moon and back Laura! Her and Danny always made time for nieces and nephews, furthermore they always had a relationship with each other that was what I would describe as perfect.
