Judith Bonnema

Judy Kay Bonnema, age 71, of Willmar, died Sunday evening, April 3, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar following a courageous two year battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, at the Evangelical Free Church in Willmar. Interment will be at the Holland Township Cemetery in Prinsburg. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Judy Kay Bonnema was born on February 1, 1945, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Marvin and Grace Bonnema. She grew up in Prinsburg, and was baptized and professed her faith at the First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Judy attended and graduated from Central Minnesota Christian School in 1963 and then graduated as a Registered Nurse from Abbott Hospital Nursing School in Minneapolis. Following nursing school, Judy was married to Ed Dorsett and they moved to Bertha in 1966. She was employed at the Bertha Hospital until 1977, when she began working at the Clarissa Nursing Home. In 1996, Judy moved to Willmar and began employment at Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home until her retirement in 2010. She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Willmar. Judy enjoyed the time spent with her family and friends.

She is survived by one daughter, Karen Severson of Chandler, AZ.; two grandchildren, Rachel Savig of Willmar and Hanna Savig of Moorhead. Also surviving are three siblings, Myron (and Marjorie) Bonnema of Prinsburg, Eldon (and Betty) Bonnema of Willmar and Lowell (and Darlene) Bonnema of Nisswa, besides other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Steve Dorsett in 2000 and one brother and sister-in-law, Melverne and Diane Bonnema.
