Jason R. Maier, age 37, of Bethesda, Maryland and formerly of Delano, died unexpectedly Thursday, October 23, in Maryland.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 30, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home.
Jason Ryan Maier was born on May 31, 1977 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, to Richard and Lili (Windsor) Maier. When he was 18 months old, the family moved to Delano, where Jason attended school and graduated from Delano High School in 1995. He graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks in 2000 with a major in geography. He also received his private pilot's license while at UND. He worked as a cartographer for Navtech in Fargo and GeoComm in St. Cloud. In 2004, he began employment with the U.S. Government working for the Department of Defense in the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency , the Pentagon and the State Department. For the past nine years he resided in Bethesda, Maryland.
Jason was kind, considerate, fun-loving, and hard-working. He was loyal to his friends, dedicated to his work, and was always willing to help anyone. He loved hunting and fishing, sports, mastering video games, traveling, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. He was his mom and dad's go-to-guy for computers and TV. He also enjoyed playing flag football, where met the love of his life and recent fiancée, Kristy Siebrecht.
He is survived by his parents, Rich and Lili Maier of Delano; his grandmother, Sylvia Maier of Atwater; his fiancée, Kristy Siebrecht of Bethesda, MD; aunts, Anne Windsor of Spicer; Janelle (and John) Hofgesang of Clifton Park, NY, Mary Jordan of Winona; and Theresa (and Jim) Holm of Plymouth; uncle, Jim (and Diane) Windsor of Madison, WI; cousins, Tony (and Lisa) Windsor of Tucson, AZ, Brad Windsor of Milwaukee, WI, Katie (and Justin) Dahm of Milwaukee, WI, Chad Jordan of Rockford, Danny Jordan of Waconia, Nick Ricci of Phoenix, AZ, Alissa Ricci of Spicer, MN, Kristina Ricci of Phoenix, AZ, Nathan Hofgesang of South Korea, Leah Hofgesang of Rochester, NY, Scott (and Mary) Maier of Maple Plain, and Andrea Maier of Plymouth; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Harold Maier and Harold and Edith Windsor; uncles, Bill Maier, Dean Maier and Keith Windsor; and a cousin, Tammy Maier Nelson.
