Eunice Weflen

Eunice M. Weflen, age 81, of rural Sunburg passed away Tuesday morning, March 29, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Services will be held at 10 A.M. Friday, April 1, at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg.  Interment will be in the West Norway Lake Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M., Thursday at the Peterson Brothers Sunburg Funeral Home in Sunburg and 1 hour prior to the services at the church.
Eunice May Weflen was born on May 16, 1934 on the family farm in Lake Johanna Township near Brooten, Minnesota, the daughter of H. Alfred and Mabel Sophie (Simonson) Westrud.  She grew up in the Brooten area, was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and received her education in the Brooten Schools.  On April 5, 1952, Eunice was married to Jerome Kenneth Weflen at the parsonage of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.  They made their home on his family farm homestead where Jerome farmed and also did trucking.  They owned and operated the Sunburg Café from 1981 until 1994.  Jerome passed away in February of 2013, they had celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death.  She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She took great pride in her family and her home.  She loved to be with family and friends.  She was well known for her lefse, rolls, other baked goods and her love of music, she enjoyed singing and to compose music.  Eunice also enjoyed going to garage sales and spending time with the "girls".  She was a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church.
Eunice is survived by five children; Dennis (and Beverly) Weflen of Willmar, Loretta (and John) Hubin of Hector, LuAnn (and Gail) Schuette of Watertown, Lori (and Dale) Lyrek of Winsted and Dale Weflen and fiancé Cheryl Schindler of Sunburg.  Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one brother, Vernon (and Bonnie) Westrud of Northfield, five sisters; Melba (and Ruben) Olson of Willmar, Lavina Keil of Perham, Verna (and Arnie) Sharstrom of Morris, Ardis (and Roger) Strommen of Monticello and Mavis (and Verney) Iverson of Alexandria, two brothers-in-law; James Mathiason of Belgrade and Leslie Ellingson of Sunburg and one sister-in-law, Darlene Westrud of Maple Lake, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerome in 2013, three brothers, Harland, Alan and Gerald Westrud, two sisters, Norma Mathiason and Delphene Quisberg, five brothers-in-law; Eugene Keil, Paul Quisberg, Orville Weflen, Deloyne Weflen, and Ernest Weflen and one sister-in-law, Adeline Ellingson.
