Betty Larson

Betty Lou Larson, age 85, of Atwater, died Friday morning, January 1, at the Cedar Crest Living Center in Cosmos.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, at Rosendale United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, January 4, at Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter.

Betty Lou Larson was born May 16, 1930 in Litchfield, Minnesota, the daughter of Emil and Florence (Putzier) Lewerenz. She was raised on a farm south of Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School. She met her husband, Eugene Larson, at Big Kandi Lake Arena rollerskating. They later married on April 7, 1950 in Atwater. Betty milked cows along side Eugene. She loved to bake and sew and was an active member of Rosendale Methodist Church. She enjoyed farming and her family, especially her grandchildren. Betty lived on the farm until September 2014 when she moved to Cedar Crest in Cosmos.

Betty is survived by her two children, Larry (and Kay) Larson and Linda (and Dean) Summerlet, both of Atwater; four grandchildren, Melissa (and Jacob) Houston of Franklin, TN, Nathan Summerlet of Buffalo Lake, Hayley (and Rob) Kruger of Franklin, WI, and Brandon Larson of Atwater; four great-grandsons, Lucas and Cooper Houston, Trent and Rylan Summerlet; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Kruger; and two sisters, Shirley Anderson of Litchfield and LaVonne Danielson of Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; her parents; brothers, John and Bud Lewerenz; and sister, Fern Grant.
