Arnold Vossen

Arnold "Arnie" Paul Vossen, 74, of Willmar, died Thursday morning, April 7, at his home in Willmar, on the anniversary of his grandmother's birthday, Olga Frieberg.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 11, at Calvary Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM on Sunday, April 10 at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Arnold "Arnie" Paul Vossen was born on August 2, 1936, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Raymond and Valborg (Freeberg) Vossen. He grew up and received his education in Willmar and was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church. In 1953, Arnie was married to Jarres Jacobson of Willmar. He was employed at the Ford dealership in Morris and then for Gordon Dille in Fargo-Moorhead. They returned to Willmar where he worked at Rodelius Ford before operating an APCO service station in Willmar. Arnie founded the first local Chrysler dealership "Town and Country Motors" in Willmar. Before retiring, he owned and operated Willmar Auto. Arnie was proud of reminding people that he was "in the car business for over 56 years".

Arnie was a well known area stock car racer in the 1950's and 1960's. He enjoyed winning many races in and around the Willmar area in car #513 with his friends on the pit crew. Arnie's interests included baseball, softball, basketball, football, fishing, golf and auto racing.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Vossen of Willmar; his five children, Paul (and Deb) Vossen of Spicer, Lori (and Joel) Jacobson of Willmar, Rick (and Joy) Vossen of Panama City, FL., Steve (and Julie) Vossen of Willmar and Melissa (and John) Saenz of Richfield; 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving are six siblings, Don Vossen of Plymouth, Algene (and Lydia) Vossen of Sioux Falls, SD., Jerry Vossen of Redding, CA., Shirley (and Jerry) Cherry of Bayport, Gary (and Kathy) Vossen of Willmar and Charlotte (and Dave) Helmuth of Atwater, besides other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marilyn and Karen; one grandson, Will Vossen and two great grandchildren, Alexandria Bailey and Nicholas Mark Janetis.
