October 18, 1931 ~ September 20, 2017 (age 85)
Annabelle E. Kern, age 85, of Raymond, died Wednesday morning, September 20, at Bethesda Grand Nursing Home in Willmar.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, at First United Methodist Church in Raymond. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 22, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. www.petersonbrothers.com
Annabelle Elizabeth Kern was born October 18, 1931, in Cavalier, North Dakota, the daughter of David and Lora (Waters) Bill. She grew up in Pembina, graduated from Pembina High School in 1949 and then attended Mayville Teacher's College. In 1951, she married Leslie Kern and they made their home in Pembina. Annabelle taught in a rural school in Pembina County before moving to Raymond, in 1969. In Raymond, she taught in the elementary school until her retirement in 1996. She later owned and operated the Kern Quilt Company with her daughter, LuAnna.
Annabelle was a member of First United Methodist Church in Raymond, where she was active in the women's organizations. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crafts, camping and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. Annabelle was proud to have visited all 50 of the American states, Ireland and Nova Scotia.
She is survived by her four children, Maureen (and Bradley) Dykema of Madison, LuAnna Kern of Willmar, Leslie "Skip" (and Nancy) Kern of Raymond and Janet (and David) Johnson of Benson; five grandchildren, Cory (and Kristen) Kern, Jay (and Kim) Kern, Tara Dykema, Reid (and Jamie) Dykema and Eric Johnson; five great grandchildren, Madalyn, Conner, Cam, Max and Nolan, besides other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie in 1983; and two sisters, Elaine Nelson and Leona O'Hara.
