Wallace M. Brandt, age 89, of Willmar, died Sunday evening, March 10, at Bethesda Grand Senior Living in Willmar.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond. Interment will be at Tripolis Lutheran Cemetery in rural Kandiyohi at a later date. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 15, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to the Bethesda Foundation. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
Wallace Maynard Brandt was born May 19, 1929, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Gerald and Amy (Peterson) Brandt. He grew up on the family farm in rural Willmar and attended District 61 country school. He began farming with his brother, Burt, on the family farm. On May 30, 1950 , he married Corenne Pickle at Harrison Community Presbyterian Church. In 1960, Wally and Corenne moved to a farm in rural Raymond where they farmed until 1984. After retiring from farming, Wally began working as a custodian for the Willmar Public Schools until 1997. They moved into Raymond in 2012 and Wally most recently resided at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Raymond. Wally enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and bird watching.
Wally is survived by his children, Brian (and Debi) Brandt of Raymond and Barb (and Cal) Freeman of Atwater; five grandchildren, Matt (and Nicole) Brandt, Ross (and Kayla) Brandt, Jill (and Adam) Stensrud, Chris (and Christy) Freeman, and Jeff (and Kari) Freeman; eleven great-grandchildren, Kolby, Hunter, Madeline, Rylynn, Piper, Knox, Hayden, Cody, Caden, Clara, and Corin; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Corenne in 2016; six brothers, Ray, Harold, Marvin, Everett, Willard, and Burton; and four sisters, Gladys Bjornberg, Alice Thompson, Lulu Erickson, and Helen Brandt.
